Norway votes for deep-sea mining despite environmental concerns | Deep-sea mining | The Guardian

Norway has taken a step closer to becoming the first country in the world to open up its seabed for commercial deep-sea mining after giving it the go-ahead in a highly contentious parliamentary vote on Tuesday.

The decision comes despite warnings from scientists that it could have a devastating impact on marine life, and opposition from the EU and the UK, which have called for a temporary ban on deep-sea mining because of environmental concerns.
The proposal, voted in by 80-20 by Norway’s parliament after attracting cross-party support, is expected to speed up exploration of minerals – including precious metals – that are in high demand for green technologies.

Western Colonization and Racism triggered Gaza Genocide

War on Gaza: Western racism laid the foundations for this genocide | Middle East Eye

Expect the US, as well as Europe, to work harder than ever to undermine international law and its supporting institutions. Imputations of antisemitism on the part of the judges who back South Africa’s case – and the states to which they belong – will be liberally spread around.

Craig Murray. Rightly asks who is on trial here?

Former UK ambassador Craig Murray attended the International Court of Justice yesterday on South Africa’s genocide case against Israel:

‘It occurred to me that the people who really did not want to be in the Court at all were the judges, because it is, in fact, the judges and the Court itself on trial. The fact of genocide is incontrovertible and had been plainly set out. But several of the judges are desperate to find a way to please the USA and Israel and avoid countering the current zionist narrative, the adoption of which is necessary to keep your feet comfortably under the table of the elite.

‘What counts more for them, personal comfort, the urgings of NATO, future wealthy sinecures? Are they prepared to ditch any real notion of international law for those things?

‘That is the real question before the court.’
